Oil palm

Aligning policies with private sector initiatives for a more inclusive palm oil value chain.

CIFOR’s research on oil palm focuses on how plantations affect land use dynamics, biodiversity, local livelihoods and gender relations. It also explores pathways to better leveraging public and private initiatives to address the sector’s performance gaps.

Scientists are documenting the conditions needed to make supply chains more sustainable and inclusive – especially for smallholders – and their evidence has informed Indonesian policies on sustainable oil palm production.
